European Softball Federation President Andre van Overbeek is in Prague to watch the European Women´s Championships, and he has been impressed both by what he´s seen on the field and off. He sat down with us to discuss these things, as well as the general state of softball in Europe.
The favorites of this year’s championship are doing well so far, winning all of their games and getting through their pools without any hesitation. On Tuesday’s afternoon, we’ve seen an ecnounter of two of them, Russia and Great Britain, who played a wonderful game. Russia was the luckier one by the end to grab a win.
There are no surprises on the second playing day of the Championship as all games ended up quite as expected. Thrilling game was played between Russia and Germany and the second German loss means most probably an end for them. We also have to mention unbelievable pitching pefrormance by Grauer, who threw 20 strike-outs against Poland.
The first day of the Women’s European Championship didn’t bring any big surprises as the clear favorites won their games without hesitation. Maybe Slovakia’s loss to Croatia is a result that wasn’t expected, but the Dutch have fulfilled their role as well as the Italians, the Czechs or the Russians.
