The 2021 Austrian softball season opened with the Vienna Derby between the Vienna Wanderers and the Vienna Metrostars - formerly M-Stars. 

The Metrostars took the first game, while the Wanderers won game 2, for a tie on the opening day of the Austrian Bundesliga.

In game 1, Vienna Metrostars took the lead, scoring once in the second inning, thanks to a triple by Lena Dorffner that scored on a wild pitch. 3 hits and 2 runs by the Vienna Wanderers reversed the situation in the fourth inning. Vienna Wanderers' lead did not last long: on the top of the fifth, Vienna Metrostars scored 8 runs, winning the game by mercy rule 9-2.

Game 2 saw the Vienna Wanderers scoring 4 runs in the first inning thanks to 2 hits by Denise Orlovits-Zaidan and Caroline Meriaux and a fielding error. Vienna Metrostars tried to react with 1 run scored on the third and another one in the fifth but left 9 runners on the bases. The Vienna Wanderers took the W in game 2, ending the game 2-4.

The next scheduled games for the Austrian Bundesliga are on May 2, when the Vienna Wanderers will face the 2020 Austrian Champions Linz Witches.
